Electric vehicles are increasing in popularity for many reasons. When you drive electric, you can reduce your impact on the environment, see big savings from subsidies and incentives, and skip expensive fill-ups.
Here at Helfman Ford, we’re making it as easy as possible to find the electric vehicles that fit your driving needs, which is why we’re sharing all you need to know about charging your EV. Here’s a look at the three different levels of electric vehicle charging.
Level 1 Charging
Level 1 charging is the kind of charging you’ll do at your home or office through a regular 120v outlet. It’s important to note that Level 1 charging does take the longest amount of time, only charging the vehicle a few miles an hour. Plug-in hybrid vehicles benefit more from Level 1 charging than fully electric models.
Level 2 Charging
Level 2 charging is what you will use most often in order to charge your fully electric model. The voltage typically ranges between 208-240 volts and infrastructure for Level 2 charging may be installed at your home or available in public or work locations. Level 2 charging charges almost 10 times faster than Level 1 charging, which allows you to charge your vehicle overnight for daily use.
Level 3 Charging
Level 3 charging is also known as DC Fast Charging or Supercharging in the case of certain vehicles. It is the fastest type of charging and ranges in voltage from 400-900 volts, which means charging in just a few minutes. Level 3 charging typically cannot be supported by residential power systems.
