The Debut of the Very First Ford Mustang

The original Ford Mustang was introduced in April of 1964 and dealers were soon bombarded with requests for the sleek new vehicle. This new model completely surpassed sales expectations, with dealers selling 22,000 cars on the very first day. The Ford Mustang became wildly successful at the Indianapolis 500 when it was featured as the pace car.

The Ford Mustang Evolves

In 1965, the first Ford Mustang made by Henry Ford and Carroll Shelby raced onto the scene. The Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 dominated the competition, sporting a modified K-code engine capable of 306 horsepower. This model was only available in Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue Rocker stripes, which were optional.

In 1967, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 was introduced containing the Cobra Le Mans, a 335-horsepower V-8 beast of an engine. In 1968 two of the most famous Ford Mustang models of all time were created: the Boss 302 and 429 models. In 1984, the V-8-powered Ford Mustang GT was introduced.

In 2007 the Ford Mustang Cobra returned with the Ford Mustang GT500 boasting a Tremac TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission. In 2015, Ford introduced the turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine. Several more advancements followed in later years.
